The City University of New York Athletic Conference annually recognizes its best and brightest student-athletes, who not only excel in athletics, but succeed in the classroom as well. Over the next few weeks, CUNYAC will recognize those who truly embody what it means to be a student-athlete.
Omar Hasan-Hafez, a member of the Brooklyn College men's swimming team, graduated this Fall with a strong 3.76 grade-point average. The Brooklyn native graduated magna cum laude, earning a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science.
Hasan-Hafez is part of several record-breaking relay performances, including the: 200-yard medley (2018), 200 freestyle relay (2017), 400 freestyle relay (2017), 400 medley relay (2017) and 800 freestyle relay.
Hasan-Hafez is a three-time CUNYAC All-Star, individually reaching the podium in freestyle events at all three championship meets, highlighted by a gold medal performance in the 100 freestyle in 2019. Omar has also earned numerous medals in relay events, including five gold medal efforts.
Last season, Hasan-Hafez led the Bulldogs to their greatest campaign in team history. Brooklyn went a program-best 8-1 during the regular season and was the runner-up at the CUNYAC Swimming & Diving Championships, its highest finish ever at the meet.
In addition to his success in the pool, Hasan-Hafez also impressed on land, receiving the Brooklyn College Alumni Association Student Award for his academic achievements and service to Brooklyn College and the community.
