The City University of New York Athletic Conference annually recognizes its best and brightest student-athletes, who not only excel in athletics, but succeed in the classroom as well. Over the next few weeks, CUNYAC will recognize those who truly embody what it means to be a student-athlete.
Samantha Helmy, a member of the Hunter College women's swim team, boasts an impressive 3.973 grade-point average. The Staten Island native is a Macaulay Honors College student majoring in Chemistry.
Last season, Helmy swam in 11 meets for Hunter, posting 11 individual top-five finishes, including a first-place effort in the 100-yard butterfly on homecoming weekend against John Jay.
At the 2020 CUNYAC Swimming Championships, Helmy recorded a pair of top-five performances in the 200-yard fly and 1650-yard freestyle, helping Hunter capture its 11th conference title in team history and first since the 2016-17 campaign. At the conclusion of the season, Helmy was the recipient of CUNYAC's Sportsmanship Award.
Upon graduation, Helmy will continue her academic career at the University of Rochester School of Medicine.
