The City University of New York Athletic Conference annually recognizes its best and brightest student-athletes, who not only excel in athletics, but succeed in the classroom as well. Over the next few weeks, CUNYAC will recognize those who truly embody what it means to be a student-athlete.
Alec Helford, a member of the Hunter College men's volleyball team, owns a strong 3.605 grade-point average, majoring in Human Biology.
A team captain, the Massapequa native will be remembered as one of the most decorated players in program history. Helford is a two-time CUNYAC First Team All-Star, and the 2018 CUNYAC and ECAC Rookie of the Year. In addition, Helford was selected CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month in March of 2020.
In 2018, the setter led Hunter to the CUNYAC Men's Volleyball Championship and in 2019 helped the program win the ECAC Men's Volleyball Championship. In each season with Helford, Hunter has reached the CUNYAC final and appeared in a national postseason tournament.
Off the court, Helford served as Hunter's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) President in 2019-20. Alec plans to continue his education upon graduation, pursing a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program.
