CUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year: Maya Thompson, Hunter

The City University of New York Athletic Conference annually recognizes its best and brightest student-athletes, who not only excel in athletics, but succeed in the classroom as well. Over the next few weeks, CUNYAC will recognize those who truly embody what it means to be a student-athlete.

Maya Thompson, a member of the Hunter College women's basketball team, carries a notable 3.686 grade-point average, majoring in Psychology.

Touted as the heart and soul of the team, Maya has appeared in 56 career contests, making 55 starts. In 2019-20, Thompson started every game for the Hawks, totaling 146 points while leading the team in total blocks, rebounds and charges taken. Thompson's hard work on the court guided Hunter back to the CUNYAC Women's Basketball Championship Game for a third consecutive campaign and the 22nd time in program history.

Upon graduation, Thompson's postgraduate plans include pursuing a master's degree in Special Education.
