CUNYAC/HSS Scholar-Athlete of the Year Honorable Mention: Gabrielle Duchaussee, CCNY

The City University of New York Athletic Conference annually recognizes its best and brightest student-athletes, who not only excel in athletics, but succeed in the classroom as well. Over the next few weeks, CUNYAC will recognize those who truly embody what it means to be a student-athlete. The award is presented by Hospital for Special Surgery, the official hospital of the CUNY Athletic Conference.

Gabrielle Duchaussee, a member of the CCNY women's soccer team, owns a strong 3.76 grade-point average, majoring in English. She is a two-time CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll member and has made the Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester.

A native of Saratoga Springs, Duchaussee is the Vice President of CCNY's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and was instrumental in establishing SAAC's weekly bake sales, which served as fundraisers for each of the college's 14 varsity teams.

On the field, Duchaussee was one of the most prolific scorers in program history. She started every game of her career at CCNY, accumulating 50 goals, one of two Beavers in school history to score 50 times. She also handed out 14 assists for a total of 114 points. Duchaussee is a two-time CUNYAC All-Star and 2017 First Team All-ECAC performer.

In her final campaign in a CCNY uniform, the senior earned First Team CUNYAC All-Star status, scoring a conference-best 22 goals, which also ranked fifth in NCAA Division III. Duchaussee guided the Beavers to the CUNYAC Championship Game for the first time since 2012.

"The past few years have gone by so quickly but being a student-athlete at City College has been the time of my life, and receiving this honor is such a special way to close out my last semester," Duchaussee said. "I will never be able to thank my family, teammates, coaches, and the rest of the athletic department enough for the unending support throughout my time at CCNY. I feel both proud and privileged to have had this experience—it's not every day that you get to represent your school while playing the sport you love. I know that I will always carry with me everything that this community has taught me, whether it be on the field or in the classroom. I am grateful for both the wins and the losses, and for every unique opportunity that being a student-athlete has brought my way. Looking ahead, I believe that the future is incredibly bright for women's soccer, CCNY Athletics, and the CUNYAC as a whole. Thank you!"
