The City University of New York Athletic Conference annually recognizes its best and brightest student-athletes, who not only excel in athletics, but succeed in the classroom as well. Over the next few weeks, CUNYAC will recognize those who truly embody what it means to be a student-athlete. The award is presented by Hospital for Special Surgery, the official hospital of the CUNY Athletic Conference.
Jarret Oehler, a member of the Lehman College baseball team, sports a 3.391 grade-point average while majoring in Business Administration.
On the field, Oehler is one of the top pitchers in the CUNYAC, earning Pitcher of the Year honors in 2019. A three-time CUNYAC Pitcher of the Week, the Bronx native led the conference in innings pitched (72.2) and strikeouts (91), while his 3.22 ERA ranked third. He tossed four complete games in 2019, highlighted by a 13-strikeout performance in a complete-game victory over CCNY.
"Being a CUNYAC student-athlete has given me the opportunity to not only progress my skills on the field but in the classroom as well," said Oehler. "It has been a time of immense growth and something that has propelled me toward my future goals."
Since arriving to Lehman in 2018, Oehler has appeared in 33 games, making 20 starts. He owns nine wins on the mound, tossing 131.0 innings with 170 strikeouts.
"Jarret sets a great example for student-athletes," Lightning Head Coach James Cisco said. "His hard work and dedication have shown in the classroom and on the field. We are very proud of him."
