The City University of New York Athletic Conference annually recognizes its best and brightest student-athletes, who not only excel in athletics, but succeed in the classroom as well. Over the next few weeks, CUNYAC will recognize those who truly embody what it means to be a student-athlete. The award is presented by Hospital for Special Surgery, the official hospital of the CUNY Athletic Conference.
Leyla Mirzaalimova, a member of the Kingsborough Community College women's tennis team, has excelled both academically and athletically. She holds a 3.1 grade-point average while majoring in Biology.
A team captain, the sophomore had a fantastic 2019 campaign. Mirzaalimova won the Region XV Championship in No. 1 singles, advancing to the NJCAA National Championship at the Peachtree City Tennis Center in Georgia. Mirzaalimova finished fourth at the event, reaching the semifinals after winning her quarterfinals contest against Rachel Hofstetter of DuPage CC.
