The City University of New York Athletic Conference annually recognizes its best and brightest student-athletes, who not only excel in athletics, but succeed in the classroom as well. Over the next few weeks, CUNYAC will recognize those who truly embody what it means to be a student-athlete. The award is presented by Hospital for Special Surgery, the official hospital of the CUNY Athletic Conference.
Roberto Dutan, a multi-sport student-athlete at Queensborough Community College, owns a 3.4 grade-point average, majoring in Architectural Technology. Dutan is a two-time CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection and a two-time NJCAA Region XV Academic All-Region honoree.
While juggling both academics and athletics, the sophomore holds a position as a construction laborer for U.F Dutan Construction Corp.
Dutan was a member of the Tigers' cross country, soccer and track and field teams. At this year's cross country championships, the sophomore was the second community college student-athlete to cross the finish line, finishing 29th overall in a field of 75 runners.
In men's soccer, Dutan was a key member in Queensborough's 2018 run to a CUNYAC Championship, its first since 2015. This season, the sophomore started 11 games, helping the Tigers capture the regular season title and return to the CUNYAC Championship final. Known for his sportsmanlike play and demeanor, he earned the conference's Sportsmanship Award, while landing a spot on the Region XV All-Sportsmanship Team.
