The City University of New York Athletic Conference annually recognizes its best and brightest student-athletes, who not only excel in athletics, but succeed in the classroom as well. Over the next few weeks, CUNYAC will recognize those who truly embody what it means to be a student-athlete. The award is presented by Hospital for Special Surgery, the official hospital of the CUNY Athletic Conference.
Joseph Vasile, a member of the Baruch College men's swimming and diving team, boasts a spectacular 3.83 grade-point average with a major in History and a minor in Art History. Vasile is a seven-time Dean's List and CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection.
A native of Staten Island, Vasile is a member of Baruch's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). In addition, he is a Senior Swim Coach for the Trident Aquatics Club, where he teaches teen groups on swim techniques, fitness and health.
A team captain, Vasile had a fantastic four-year career with the Bearcats in the pool, helping Baruch capture three CUNYAC Championships. He is a four-time CUNYAC All-Star, frequently reaching the podium with strong performances in freestyle and backstroke events, highlighted by a gold medal effort in the 200-yard backstroke at the 2017 conference championships. In addition, Vasile was a four-year finalist qualifier at the Metropolitan Swimming and Diving Championships.
