The City University of New York Athletic Conference annually recognizes its best and brightest student-athletes, who not only excel in athletics, but succeed in the classroom as well. Over the next few weeks, CUNYAC will recognize those who truly embody what it means to be a student-athlete. The award is presented by Hospital for Special Surgery, the official hospital of the CUNY Athletic Conference.
Theresa Leung, a member of the Hunter College women's basketball team, boasts a 3.63 grade-point average, set to graduate with a degree in Accounting. A CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll honoree, Leung is a seven-time Dean's List selection. This summer, Leung plans to intern at Ernst and Young and is enrolled at the NYU Stern School of Accounting for the Fall, where she will continue her studies to become a Certified Public Accountant. Last Summer, she was a Tax & HR Intern with Oppenheimer & Co. Inc.
A native of Bayside, Leung has been very involved on campus. She is an officer in the Volunteer Income Tax Program, helping complete tax returns for qualified individuals and families. Leung is also a member of the Accounting Society at Hunter College, serving on the Marketing Committee.
On the court, Leung was a four-year starter and two-year captain for the Hawks. She appeared in 104 games, making 98 starts, accumulating 1,024 points, 360 assists, 328 rebounds and 169 steals. She is the 12th Hawk in program history to score 1,000 career points, while her assist total ranks third all-time.
Leung was named CUNYAC Rookie of the Year in the 2016-17 campaign and went on to earn Second Team CUNYAC All-Star laurels in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. The guard helped Hunter capture the CUNYAC Championship and NCAA Tournament berth in 2019, while helping the Hawks return to the conference final and earn a bid into the ECAC Championship in 2020.
