CUNYAC Women's Swimming Swimmer of the Week
Grace Valette, Hunter (Fr., Boulder, Colo.)
Valette started the new year with a couple of strong performances with four 2nd place finishes against USMAA & John Jay. Valette was second-best in the 200 Medley Relay (2:02.66), 200 freestyle (2:04.90), 200 backstroke (2:22.97) and 400 free relay (4:16.10)
She then one-upped herself against Brooklyn with a clean sweep of first place finishes in the 200 freestyle (2:05.09), 100 backstroke (1:05.20) and 200 free relay (1:49.63).
CUNYAC Women's Swimming Rookie of the Week
Elizabeth Bailey-Hamm, Brooklyn (Fr., Brooklyn, N.Y.)
Bailey-Hamm won the 50 freestyle (26.90) and also finished first in the100 freestyle (1:00.29) in Brooklyn's conference meet against Hunter on Saturday.
CUNYAC Women's Swimming Swimmer of the Week (Honorable Mention)
Kira Chen, Baruch (Sr., Fresh Meadows, N.Y.)
Chen won all three of her events to help the Bearcats to a 2-0 start in the CUNYAC schedule after defeating York College on January 5. She started by winning the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 2:36.53 and followed by winning the 100 meter butterfly in 1:18.64. She finished the conference meet winning the 200 meter freestyle relay in a fast time of 2:02.66. After the meet, she time trailed the 100 meter IM and broke the Baruch school record with a time of 1:17.44.
