Baruch Captures Fourth Consecutive CUNYAC Men’s Swimming & Diving Championship

FULL RESULTS

Bronx, N.Y. –
The final day of the 2022 CUNYAC/Healthfirst Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship concluded on Sunday at the APEX at Lehman College with Baruch College cementing its place as conference champion for the fourth year-in-a-row.

Due to the heavy snowstorm that hit New York City and Southern New York on Saturday, sessions two and three took place Sunday afternoon.
Baruch put on a stellar display over the weekend meet, amassing an astounding 341 points. Lehman College finished as the runner-up with 128 points, with Brooklyn College taking bronze.

“It was great to be in the water after a yearlong break. It was well needed and great for these guys, after all they've been through. I’m proud of the men and women today,” Baruch head coach Charles Lampasso said. “They bonded early on in the beginning of the school year, they trained so hard together and didn’t want to let each other down, and that was our success.”

The Bearcats’ Dayan Ordabayev earned seven gold medals over the course of the weekend, including: first-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard freestyle, 400-yard medley relay and 200-yard medley relay on the final day. His efforts earned him Most Valuable Performer recognition.

“We have a good Coach, and we have a lot of good guys pushing each other. We have a good competitive spirit with one another and that brought us success today.” Ordabayev said.

In the 200-yard medley relay, a pair of Baruch relay teams finished first and third, respectively, with Lehman earning silver.
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the team of William Rose, Gary Danilyan, Abdul Khan, and Nicholas Blanco of Baruch took home gold with a time of 8:27.24.

In the men’s 100-yard butterfly, Baruch took home two of the three medals as Eli Meron clocked in 56.21, good for gold, while Brooklyn’s Christian Hoyek (59.36) earned silver, and Meron’s teammate Fernando Marroquin (1:09.76) took bronze.

In the 400-yard individual medley, Meron and Abdul Khan of Baruch take home gold and silver, respectively.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, Ordabayev earned gold seven seconds ahead of the Bulldogs Ronaldo Barrios who took silver and Baruch’s Nicholas Blanco who placed third.

Baruch’s Youssef Elkhouly dominated the 100-yard backstroke, taking gold a full 16 seconds ahead of Lehman’s Carlos Alonso (silver) and Gent Gazheli (bronze) to round out the top three.

The weekend continued with the men’s 1000-yard freestyle. Rose (11:51.29) and Khan (13.22.57) of Baruch took gold and silver, respectively, followed by the Bulldogs Barrios taking bronze with a time of 13:38.67.

In the 200-yard backstroke, the Bearcats’ Elkhouly, Rose, and Blanco swept all three medals in that order.

Ordabayev came just short in setting the all-time CUNYAC record in the 100-yard freestyle with his gold medal performance of 48.96. He was followed by teammate Danilyan and Eli Mogorichev, who finished second and third, respectively.

The final event of the evening was the men’s 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Ordabayev, Rose, Meron, and Elkhouly took gold for the Bearcats with a time of 3:21.71, followed by Lehman team A and Baruch team B.
