NEW YORK – John Jay College of Criminal Justice Interim Director of Athletics Brandon Fieland has announced that Bobby Molinaro has been named the head coach of the baseball program.
"John Jay Baseball has a rich and proud history, and I was very intentional about finding the right person to lead the program into its next chapter," said Fieland. "Coach Molinaro stood out throughout the interview process because of his vision for the program, his commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the field, and his belief in creating a culture built on accountability. He understands what it means to represent John Jay and the tradition of our baseball program, and I am confident that he will build on that foundation while establishing a strong culture of development, discipline, and success. We are excited to welcome Bobby to John Jay and look forward to the future of our baseball program under his leadership."
Molinaro brings more than two decades of baseball coaching, recruiting, and player-development experience to John Jay, with a résumé that includes collegiate coaching, national-level travel baseball, and an extensive record of helping student-athletes advance to the college ranks. His background includes stops with Suffolk West Community College, Long Island Titans Baseball, Team Steel Baseball and Team Beast Long Island.
"I am extremely excited and honored to take on the role of Head Baseball Coach at John Jay College," commented Molinaro. "I look forward to rebuilding a competitive program and a culture centered around hard work, accountability, and pride, while helping our student-athletes develop both on and off the field. John Jay also holds a special place for me personally. During my time with the NYPD, the college was located within the precinct I covered, so I've always felt a connection to the school and surrounding community. To return in this role is something I'm incredibly proud of, and I'm excited to build something special with our players, staff, alumni, and the entire John Jay community."
Most recently, Molinaro has served as Director of Baseball Recruitment for Team Beast Long Island, a position he has held since 2022. In addition to overseeing recruitment, he serves as head coach of Beast 2027 National and assists families throughout the college recruiting process, acting as a liaison between players and college coaches.
Under Molinaro's leadership, the program developed into a nationally recognized team. His 2025 squad was ranked No. 92 nationally, No. 9 regionally and No. 5 in New York State by Perfect Game. The team was also named the 2025 Axcess Baseball 16U Team of the Year and captured the 2025 Perfect Game Dynamic College Series and Hot Stove Baseball championships.
Before joining Team Beast, Molinaro served as head coach with Team Steel Baseball from 2019-22, where he managed all facets of the program, including practices, player development, game preparation, budgeting, recruiting and tournament logistics. He also helped numerous players continue their careers at colleges and universities while expanding the organization with additional teams.
His most extensive collegiate head coaching experience came at Suffolk West Community College, where he led the program from 2002-10. Molinaro inherited a program with just two players and, within five years, developed it into a three-time championship program that advanced to the NJCAA Division III World Series in three consecutive seasons from 2007-09.
During his tenure at Suffolk West, Molinaro coached 12 All-Americans, 33 All-Region selections and five Gold Glove Award winners, along with an eventual 11th-round Major League Baseball draft selection. He also communicated with MLB scouts and served as a liaison between his student-athletes and four-year institutions to help create opportunities at the next level.
Molinaro earned District F Coach of the Year, Region XV Coach of the Year and ABCA Regional Coach of the Year honors in 2007, 2008 and 2009, with Suffolk West capturing the District F and Region XV championships and advancing to the NJCAA Division III World Series each season.
His experience extends beyond the baseball diamond. Molinaro served as a New York City Police Department officer from 1993-2019, providing a unique connection to the mission and identity of John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
He earned an Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Suffolk County Community College in 1996
