Top-Seeded Baruch Claims Second Straight CUNYAC Baseball Title

KINGS POINT, N.Y. - No. 1 seed Baruch College toppled second-seeded City College of New York 13-4 in Game 3 of the 2026 CUNY Athletic Conference Baseball Championship series Saturday night at USMMA's Bartoszek Field to win its second straight CUNYAC baseball title and seventh in program history.

The Bearcats (17-15) jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first and after tacking on solo runs in the second and fourth frames, blew the game open with a five-run sixth that included a three-run home run by Baruch's Matt Rappa.  The victors scored three more times in the seventh.

CCNY (18-20), which was making its fifth straight championship series appearance, scored twice in the top of the ninth on a two-run double by Jason Roser.  The game was halted with one out in the top of the ninth due to heavy fog after the two teams had battled through intermittent fog all evening, leading to several delays.

Bearcat outfielder Sam Steinman was named Championship MVP.  For the championship, he finished 8-17 (.471) with a home run, double and triple while driving in eight runs.  He was 2-3 with two RBI Saturday night.

Rappa finished with five RBI and three hits Saturday, while Kenneth Pastrana also reached safely via base hit three times.  Steinman, Peter Marino and Joseph Bello each had two hits, with Steinman, Pastrana and Frank Scerra each driving in a pair of runs.  Baruch outhit CCNY 16-7 on the night.

Andrew Lapointe improved to 6-2 on the mound this season, going 8.1 innings and allowing four runs (three earned) and six hits while striking out nine.

CCNY was paced by Gerard Molinaro with a pair of hits while he and Roser each drove in two.

The Bearcats have now won three of the last five conference baseball titles, also winning in 2022.
