Medgar Evers Takes Third Straight CUNYAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship

NEW YORK - Medgar Evers took first place in nine of 15 events as the Cougars earned their third straight CUNY Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship Sunday night at the Nike Track and Field Center at The Armory.

The Cougars, who took down their fourth title in program history, finished with 169 points.  Hunter totaled 114 points to finish runner-up, while CCNY slotted third with 103.  Lehman (77) and York (10) rounded out the field.

MEC sophomore Omari Hinds was named the championship's Most Valuable Performer.  Hinds dominated the jumping events, winning gold in the triple jump (12.61m), long jump (6.39m) and high jump (1.80m) while also being part of the Cougars' winning 4x400 relay (3:43.07).

Cougar senior Chrisnel Nicolas took first in the 60-meter hurdles (9.76) and the pole vault (3.30m).  He placed second in the high jump (1.65m) and was third in the long jump (5.63m).

Medgar Evers sophomore Reco Griffith was first in the 60-meter dash (6.91) and the 200 (21.96).  The Cougars' Michael Ortega was victorious in the shot put (11.91m).

CCNY's Michael Abayev was first in the mile (4:50.68), while Lehman's Cameron Dennis slotted first in the 400 (51.03).  The Lightning's Marc Saint-Hilaire crossed the line first in the 800 (2:07.21) while Hunter's Mateo Penafiel was first in the 3000 (10:17.81).  Charles Howard of Lehman won the weight throw (12.27m).
