Medgar Evers Wins 2024 CUNYAC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship

NEW YORK, N.Y. (May 4, 2024) -
The Medgar Evers Cougars are men’s outdoor track & field champions, winning the 2024 CUNYAC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Icahn Stadium.
 
Coming off a dominant indoor season that resulted in the program’s first-ever league title under the guidance of head coach Hugh Reid, Medgar Evers rode that momentum into the outdoor campaign to secure conference bragging rights.
 
Medgar’s Jaheim Johnson was named the meet’s Most Valuable Performer. The rookie won gold medals in five events, including the javelin (42.79m), 400m dash (51.04), 200m dash (23.05) and as a member of Medgar’s 4x100m (44.60) and 4x400m (3:37.11) relay teams. In addition, he won a bronze medal in the 100m dash (11.77).
 
As a team, the Cougars won gold medals in six events, as Chrisnel Nicolas took gold in the pole vault with a height of 2.73m.
 
Lehman’s Ismael Barry won gold in the 100m dash, finishing with the top overall time of 11.44. In the 10,000m race, Lightning teammate Musa Mazreku was the fastest participant, finishing the race in 38:56.60.
 
Lehman’s Kenneth Davis won gold in two events, including the hammer (38.27m) and the discus (33.88m). Teammate Nelson Benzan Jr. was the top performer in the shot put, recording a toss of 11.97m.
 
CCNY’s Isaiah Slater was the top performer in the long jump, posting a leap of 6.48m. It was one of two gold medal efforts for the rookie, as he also took first in the triple jump with a mark of 12.42m.
 
In the 3,000m steeplechase, CCNY’s Gian-Carlo Riehl was the top senior college performer with a time of 12:02.26, while Antonio Oliveira-Nurse was the top senior college performer in the 110mH with a time of 17.05.
 
Hunter’s Solomon Kumi was the top senior college performer in the high jump, reaching a height of 1.78m. Hawks distance runner, Mateo Penefiel, was the top senior college performer in the 1,500m, finishing the race in 4:32.51.
 
York’s Glenver Stuart was the top performer in the 800m race, finishing the run in 2:08.68.
