FLUSHING, N.Y. (Mar. 8, 2024) – The City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) has announced its annual preseason poll for the 2024 men’s tennis season. Baruch was chosen to repeat as conference champions, as voted upon by the league’s head coaches. Head coaches were not permitted to vote for their own program.
The 2024 CUNYAC/HSS Men’s Tennis Championship is scheduled for April 28 – May 2. The semifinals are scheduled for Sunday, Apr. 28, followed by the championship on Thursday, May 2 at the iconic USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Baruch was chosen to win the conference championship for a sixth consecutive season, earning 25 points and five first-place votes. The Bearcats finished 15-5 last season with a perfect 5-0 mark against conference opponents. Baruch won its first round matchup at the NCAA Tournament, the program’s fifth NCAA victory in school history and first since 2017.
Brooklyn was slated to finish second with 20 points and the lone remaining first-place vote. The Bulldogs edged out Hunter, last season’s runner-up, who finished third in the voting with 18 points.
John Jay was chosen fourth with 13 points, followed by Lehman (9) and York (5).

2024 CUNYAC Men’s Tennis Preseason Players to Watch
Juan Paredes (Baruch) – Paredes was voted a CUNYAC First Team All-Star last season, posting a 9-6 singles record highlighted by a 4-0 mark against league opponents. Paredes also owned a 16-4 record at doubles.
Ryan Sham (Brooklyn) – Sham was Brooklyn’s top performer last season, finishing the 2022-23 campaign with an 8-4 record at No. 1 singles, earning CUNYAC First Team All-Star status for a second straight season.
Anil Singh (Hunter) – Singh was voted a Second Team All-Star last season, going 4-5 overall in singles contests with a 7-2 mark at doubles.
Samir Ghimire (John Jay) – Ghimire led John Jay with five overall wins, all coming from the No. 2 singles position. He also produced three doubles victories.
Christian Agudo (Lehman) - Agudo landed a spot on the CUNYAC All-Star Second Team last season, predominantly playing at the No. 1 singles position for the Lightning.
Abubakar Khamis (York) – Last season, Khamis led York in singles victories (3) and was named York College Men’s Tennis Newcomer of the Year.
