New York, NY - John Jay Director of Athletics and Recreation Cat Alves announced that Jose Miranda has been named the new head coach of the John Jay men's and women's cross country teams.
"We are excited to welcome Coach Miranda to John Jay and the Bloodhounds' community," said Alves. "Coach Miranda brings experience and success and we look forward to watching him continue to grow and build our program."
Miranda spent two seasons as head coach of the Yeshiva University men's cross country team after being elevated to the position on February 1, 2018.
"I'm super excited to bring my running experience and expertise to the John Jay men and women's cross country programs," commented Miranda. "I'm confident we can reach a new level of success with sustained attention and effort over time."
In his first season at Yeshiva, he helped guide the men's team to a pair of first-place finishes, including the opening meet at the Baruch College Invitational, in which the Maccabees notched 46 points while two harriers finished among the top ten and four among the top-20. At the York College (N.Y) Invitational back on September 23, 2018, Yeshiva took home the team honors, after two runners placed ninth and tenth, respectively, while having a total of four place among the top-25.
No stranger to the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC), Miranda was a four-year member of the Hunter College Hawks cross country and track and field teams.
Miranda helped lead the Hawks to four straight CUNYAC Cross Country Championships while earning two CUNYAC All-Star honors and qualifying each year for the NCAA Regional Championships. His best performance came during his junior campaign, crossing the finish line with a time of 28:24.1 at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships.
In addition to his coaching duties, Miranda is a Senior Staff Attorney at the International Refugees Assistance Project, where he provides direct legal representation to refugees, asylum seekers, and displaced persons globally.
Miranda earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media Studies from Hunter in addition to receiving Macaulay Honors College University Scholar, cum laude, in 2013. He went on to attend Columbia Law School, earning his Juris Doctor degree in 2018.
