BRONX, N.Y. - Hunter College placed five runners in the top 11 to capture its fifth straight CUNY Athletic Conference men's cross country championship Sunday morning at Van Cortlandt Park. The Hawks, who won their fifth straight title and conference-record 20th overall, finished with 28 points, 17 more than Baruch, who finished runner-up with 45 points.
Brooklyn finished third with 78 points, followed by CCNY (100) and Medgar Evers (128).
Baruch's
Jose Perez was the top individual finisher and Championship Most Valuable Performer, completing the eight kilometer course in 27:57.2 to outdistance 2024 champion
Mateo Penafiel of Hunter by 9.9 seconds. Perez is the first individual winner for Baruch since Andrew O'Rourke in 2007.
For the Hawks, besides Penafiel,
Brian Arias placed third at 28:22.7.
Jack Treacher finished seventh (30:50.6), with H
engzhi Zhu crossing the line eighth (30:56.6).
Robert Liang-Xu came in 11th with his time of 31:36.7.
For Baruch, which recorded its best finish since 2021,
Brandon Lim was the second Bearcat finisher, clocking a time of 31:30. Baruch also put four additional runners in spots 12-15, with
August Guerra clocking a 32:03.4.
Demid Shcheulnikov (13th, 32:34.1),
Douglas Trosten (14th, 32:43.0), and
Joshua Joyner (15th, 32:54.6) rounded out the top 15.
Brooklyn grabbed third by placing two runners in the top five, with
Anthony King coming in fourth in 29:21.5.
Yasin Gordon was fifth (29:42.2). Dexter Weiner was the third Bulldog to cross the line, coming ninth overall in 31:34.5.
Tony Echeverria of John Jay came in 10th overall with his 31:35.0 effort.
