CCNY Men Lead After Day One of 2022 #CUNYAC/USS Outdoor Track & Field Championships

NEW YORK, N.Y. (May 7, 2022) – The 2022 CUNYAC/USS Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships got underway on Saturday, and the CCNY lead after one day of competition. Due to the inclement weather, the remainder of the championships (field events) will be determined on Thursday, May 12 at Icahn Stadium. Meet time will be announced at a later date.
 
Battling in rainy conditions all morning and afternoon, the Beavers, the nine-time defending conference champions, lead the pack after one day with 153 points. Lehman, the co-champion in 2019, is in second with 139 points, followed by Hunter in third with 115.
 
The events that have yet to be determined include the hammer throw, discus throw, triple jump, high jump and pole vault.
 
CCNY’s Habibu Gado was the league’s top performer in the 400m, finishing in 51.82. Gado also took gold in the 200m, posting a time of 24.51.
 
In the 3,000m steeplechase, it was CCNY’s Adam Tarsia who earned gold, crossing the finish line in 13:08.52, 1:06 faster than the second-place runner. Teammate Jules Day was victorious in the 1,500m, finishing the race in 4:44.42. Day also took gold in the 800m with a time of 2:14.24.
 
In the 400m hurdles Antonio Oliviera-Nurse was crowned league champion, completing the race in 1:06.50, four seconds quicker than the second-place participant.
 
CCNY was the top team in the 4x400m relay, as a team of Gado, Kyle Byron, Temitope Adegbenro and Day finished in 3:51.49, 14 seconds faster than the second-place team.
 
Hunter’s Alexander Niyazov was the top performer in the 10,000m, finishing the race in 39:05.67. The Hawks went 1-2 in the race, as Crosve Lucero took silver in the race with a time of 39:13.41.
 
In the 5,000m, Hunter’s Brian Guillermo was the top runner, fining the race in 17:50.39. The Hawks’ Matthew Lau was crowned league champion in the 110m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 19.74.
 
Queensborough’s Ayoub Elfahim was the conference’s top performer in the 100m dash, producing a time of 11.59, edging out Lehman’s Keyshawn Peterson, who was the top senior college runner in the 100m dash with an effort of 11.91.
 
In field events, Lehman’s Kuron Williams was the top participant in the javelin, recording a toss of 39.10m. In the shot put, teammate Kenneth Davis took gold with a heave of 9.81m.
 
In the long jump, Gado and Griffiths finished in a tie, each recording a leap of 5.81m.
