2022 CUNYAC Baseball Championship Field Set

FLUSHING, N.Y. (May 2, 2022) – Now that the regular season has come to an end, the field is set for the 2022 CUNYAC Baseball Championship. Four programs with championship aspirations will compete for conference bragging rights on May 6-7 at Maimonides Park.
 
Baruch, the defending conference champions, is the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament, going 13-9 overall and 11-1 against conference opponents to win a second consecutive CUNYAC regular season title. The Bearcats enter the tournament fresh off a series sweep over Lehman on Apr. 30.
 
Baruch features four batters hitting over .300 this season, including a team-best .328 batting average from infielder, Bran Hwang. On the mound, the Bearcats are led by four-time CUNYAC Pitcher of the Week, Matthew Lawlor.
 
CCNY is the No. 2 seed in the tournament, sweeping its final two conference doubleheaders over Lehman and John Jay to leapfrog into second place in the standings.
 
The Beavers’ John Creegan is hitting a whooping .394 with 41 hits on the year, while Jonathan Rivera is having a strong campaign with 33 hits and a team-best four home runs.
 
John Jay is the No. 3 seed, going 4-8 in league play during the regular season. Michael Mauro recorded a team-high 33 hits in the regular season, while Christopher Nunez produced a squad-best 19 RBIs.
 
Lehman rounds out the four-team bracket after finishing 4-8 against CUNYAC opposition during the regular season. The Lightning are led by the bat of Nomar Rijo, who carries a league-high .433 batting average.
 
For the first time in conference history, the tournament will begin with a pair of play-in contests, beginning on Tuesday, May 3.
 
The top-seeded Bearcats kick off postseason play against Lehman. Baruch won all four meetings against the Lightning in the regular season.
 
The second play-in game features CCNY and John Jay. The Beavers went 3-1 against the Bloodhounds during the regular season.
 
The winner of each contest will advance to Friday’s CUNYAC Baseball Championship best-of-three series. Day one is scheduled for Friday, May 6 at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at Maimonides Park with game three slated for Saturday, May 7 at 7:00 p.m., if necessary. The first two games of the series will be broadcasted globally on Facebook Live.
