2022 CUNYAC/HSS Men’s Tennis Championship Field Set

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Now that the regular season has come to an end, the tournament field is set for the 2022 CUNYAC/HSS Men’s Tennis Championship. Four teams with championship endeavors will vie for the title on Thursday, May 5 at the iconic USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
 
Baruch is the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament, winning the regular season championship for a fourth consecutive season and the 15th time in school history. The Bearcats went 9-3 overall in the regular season, including an undefeated record against CUNYAC opponents for a fourth straight season (3-0).
 
The Bearcats are led by Christopher Tham, who owns an 8-1 mark at top-flight singles and doubles.
 
Brooklyn is the No. 2 seed in the field, finishing the regular season 5-5 overall with a 2-1 mark in conference play. The Bulldogs are guided by two-time CUNYAC Player of the Week, Ryan Sham.
 
Hunter enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed, going 4-5 during the regular season with a 1-2 record against CUNYAC opponents. The Hawks are led by Jairo Baquera Molina, who owns the most singles victories on the team this season (4).
 
Lehman rounds out the four-team field, entering the championship with non-conference wins over St. Joseph’s Long Island and Pratt. Steven Forte is the Lightning’s top performer, competing in top-flight singles with conference victories against Brooklyn and Hunter.
 
The semifinals of the 2022 CUNYAC/HSS Men’s Tennis Championship get underway on Sunday, May 1 at the USTA National Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
 
Top-seeded Baruch will take on Lehman in the opening round. The Bearcats defeated the Lightning by a 9-0 score in the regular season meeting.
 
The other semifinal match features Brooklyn and Hunter. The Bulldogs took four of six singles matches against the Hawks in the regular season meeting to come away with a 5-4 win.
 
Those winners will advance to Thursday’s (May 5) championship final at 3 p.m. at the USTA National Tennis Center. No. 1 and No. 2 singles and doubles will be broadcasted globally for the first time ever on Facebook Live as part of an expanded offering of championship coverage through a partnership with Linacre Media.
