Hunter Wins First CUNYAC/USS Men’s Cross Country Championship Since 2012

BRONX, N.Y. – For the first time since 2012, the Hunter College men’s cross country team are conference champions, winning the 2021 CUNYAC/USS Men’s Cross Country Championship on Halloween morning at Van Cortlandt Park.
 
The Hawks turned in a solid performance, as Hunter’s top five runners finished among the top-12 of the field to win its 16th league championship in program history.
 
Hunter won both men’s and women’s races on the day, the first time both teams have won the championship in the same season since 2011.
 
Hunter freshman Brian Guillermo was the individual winner of the race, completing the 8K course in 28:38, three seconds faster than the second-place participant. For his performance, he was named the championship’s Most Valuable Runner.
 
Kyle Harris was the second Hawk to cross the finish line, finishing third overall in 30:08. Alexander Niyazov (31:31), Crosve Lucero (31:48), Roberto Novo (32:20) placed seventh, ninth and 12th, respectively, to round out Hunter’s top performers.
 
Overall, Hunter scored 32 points at the meet, the championships’ lowest score since 2011.
 
Baruch (53) placed second overall, its best finish ever at the championship event. The Bearcats were led by top-10 performances from Daniel Sedgh (30:55), Riley Walz (31:43), Samuel Grimmke (32:18) and Jairo Reina (33:07).
 
CCNY, who entered the day as the four-time defending champions, finished third overall with 71 points. The Beavers were led by strong performances from Jules Day (31:10), Adam Tarsia (31:15) and Christian Rasmussen (32:24).
 
Brooklyn placed fourth with 87 points, led by Shane Kimball, who finished second overall in the race with a time of 28:41. Lehman finished fifth with 126 points, followed by York (129) to round out the team finishes.
