CUNYAC Intramural Championship Series Presented by the Municipal Credit Union
The fall 2016-17 CUNYAC/MCU Intramural Championships concluded Friday, December 9th with the Dodgeball Championships at Queens College. The tournament consisted of 1 team from Kingsborough Community College and 7 teams representing Queens College Athletics with Queens College baseball coming out on top.
The tournament saw a double- elimination preliminary round that knocked out two teams and led to a best two out of three elimination semi-final round. This round pitted “D-Day” against “Morgan State Bears” and “Knicks” versus QC Baseball Then it came down to the wire with final between QC Baseball and “D-Day”. The two championships consisted of representatives from Queens College baseball on one team and representatives from Queens College Softball on the other.
“The best part was going down 2-1 against the soccer team and end up pulling out the W,” said QC Baseball’s Jonathan Tamanak.
In the preliminaries, two teams were eliminated with two losses. These teams included representatives from Queens College Lacrosse and Soccer. The eliminations left teams from different campuses.
With the final series set, all eyes turned to one court. QC Baseball looked like they would keep rolling as they dominated the preliminary rounds going completely undefeated
The teams began their best three out of five final with a tight battle. Game one was very exciting dodgeball as both teams battled with only one player each. With one ball in hand Stevie Ognibene dodged left and right, but in the end Ryan Bender made a spectacular throw, Ognibene attempted to block the shot with her ball but fell just short handing the first game win to Bender and QC Baseball.
QC Baseball was able to keep their dominant lead throughout the finals continuing their undefeated streak to the very end.
