NCAA UNION, NJ REGIONAL OFFICIAL WEBSITE (Latest Scores/Schedules)

Baruch suffered an 8-0 shutout in five innings to Alvernia University on Friday morning at the Union, New Jersey Regional hosted by Kean University. The season comes to an end for the Baruch softball team with a 17-27 overall record.

Alvernia recorded their 37th win of the season and first-ever NCAA win by scoring eight runs via 10 hits, which included a high-scoring third inning when they scored five runs on four hits to stay alive in the double-elimination tournament.

The Bearcats recorded five hits with a single apiece by Melanie Pellegrino, Carmen Pagan-Colon, Nicole Flint, Courtney White and Regina Cardinale. The Bearcats left five runners on base compared to three by Alvernia.

Despite the loss, the future looks promising with a majority of the roster returning for 2013. The young roster gained major experience playing in the NCAA and winning the CUNYAC Tournament.

The Bearcats lost 8-0 in six innings to the #12-ranked Montclair State University Red Hawks in an opening round NCAA contest played on Thursday morning at the Union, New Jersey Regional hosted by Kean University.

The Red Hawks (39-7), the #1 seed in the regional, smacked three homers and limited the Bearcats to one hit to record their 39th overall victory of the season.

"We committed several errors and that got us behind early in the contest," said Head Coach Jose Negroni. "You've got to give Montclair State credit, they hit the ball well with three home runs. We will put this behind us and get ready for tomorrow."

The visiting Bearcats managed to get two runners on base in the fifth inning in their best scoring opportunity of the tough morning contest.
Chelsea DeGuzman reached base on a fielder’s choice and Courtney White followed with a single to right field to get runners on first and third base.

However, Montclair State pitcher Alex Hill shut down the Bearcats to end the inning without allowing a run to post the NCAA victory.
