York's Wickham & CCNY's Dedewo Top Stars In 2010 Outdoor Track & Field Awards

Track & Field All-Stars

 

FLUSHING, NY –The 2010 Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field All-Stars were recently named by the CUNY Athletic Conference. York College, which won both the Men's & Women's Championship Meet titles are well represented with 11 all-stars and the Coach of the Year, Tom Pope. YC's Kadisha Wickham and CCNY's Paul Dedewo were named Performers of the Year by the Conference Coaches, while Hunter's Melanie Boyce and Medgar Evers' Kadeem Campbell were selected as Rookies of the Year.

 

Women’s Performer of the Year

Kadisha Wickham, York College

Sophomore / H.J. Robinson HS / Brooklyn, NY

Wickham, who was already named the Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year this season, had a phenomenal campaign during the outdoor season.  She ran several NCAA provisional times in the 200-meter dash and currently holds the sixth fastest time in NCAA Division III.  She won the race at the ECAC Championships last week and will compete at the NCAA Championships held at Baldwin-Wallace College from May 27-29 in Berea, Ohio

 

Women’s Rookie of the Year

Melanie Boyce, Hunter College

Freshman / Bishop Ford Central HS / New York, NY

Boyce won two silver medals in the High Jump and the Triple Jump at the CUNYAC Championships. Adding in a fourth place finish in the Long Jump, she earned 20 points in leading the Hawks to a second place finish.

 

Women’s Sportsmanship Award

Alexandra Nkrumah, York College

Senior / Midwood HS / Brooklyn, NY

Nkrumah closed out her York College career on a high note, winning six events at the CUNYAC Outdoor Championships en route to being named MVP.  She had a remarkable career at York, leading her team to the outdoor title in all four seasons.  She won 7 championship MVP awards between indoor and outdoor track and also took home Athlete of the Year honors for outdoor track in 2008 and 2009 and indoor track in 2009.

 

Men’s Performer of the Year

Paul Dedewo, CCNY

Freshman / DeWitt Clinton HS / Bronx, NY

Dedewo carried the Beavers by earning gold medals in the 400 Meters, the 400 Meter Hurdles and the 200 Meter Dash (22.25s), as CCNY finished 3rd in the 2010 CUNYAC Championships. His times in the 400 and the 200 meter dashes earned Paul ECAC qualification.

 

Men’s Rookie of the Year

Kadeem Campbell, Medgar Evers

Freshman / Paul Robeson HS / Brooklyn, NY

Campbell was named Men's Most Valuable Performer of the 2010 CUNYAC Championships after boasting a gold medal in the Triple Jump, silver medals in the High Jump, Javelin and Long Jump and scoring points for the Cougars in the Shot Put.

 

Men’s Sportsmanship Award

Irfan Anwar, Lehman

Junior / Ozone Park, NY

Anfar won the 800 and 1,500 Meters for the senior colleges at the CUNYAC Championships, slotted in  second overall in both races. He also finished fourth in the 5,000 Meter run.

 

Men’s & Women’s Coach of the Year

Tom Pope, York

Led the Cardinals squad to the most successful season in school history.  The Cardinals won all four CUNYAC track and field titles, winning indoor and outdoor for both men and women.  Pope has now led the Cardinals to five women’s outdoor titles and seven men’s outdoor titles.  This is his 11th Coach of the Year Award combined between the men’s and women’s teams.
