NEW YORK- Hunter College captured its first CUNY Athletic Conference men's outdoor track and field title since 2008 on Saturday at Icahn Stadium. The Hawks, who were runners-up last season, won their seventh overall title with 176 points.
Medgar Evers, which had won the last two men's outdoor titles, placed second with 167 points. CCNY (122) edged out Lehman (118) for fourth, while York (4) rounded out the field.
Medgar Evers junior
Omari Hinds was named the championship's Most Valuable Performer. He took first place in the long jump (6.23 meters), triple jump (12.22 meters) and high jump (1.78 meters). He also took second in the 110 meter hurdles (17.14) and was fifth in the 100 meter dash (11.71).
CCNY freshman
Matthew Zboinski was second in the MVP race, winning the javelin (37.89m) and placing second in the pole vault (2.61m), hammer throw (30.93m) and shot put (10.58m).
MEC sophomore
Reco Griffith set a pair of meet records and was also part of a relay record. He took gold in the 100 meter dash in 10.48 seconds while placing first in the 200 with a time of 21.23 seconds. The Cougars' 4x100 relay, consisting of Griffith,

Pharell Fowler and
Jahiem Johnson, won in a championship-record 41.89 seconds.
The Hawks totaled five individual event victories en route to the title.
Leonardo Kaplan was first in the 3000-meter steeplechase (11:13.89), with
Mateo Penafiel winning the 5000 (17:23.11).
Hengzhi Zhu kicked off the meet with his win in the 10,000 (37:07.38), while
Benjamin Landheim was first in the 400-meter hurdles (1:01.23).
Anthony Coccareli prevailed in the discus (31.48m).
Pharell Fowler took first in the 400 for
Medgar Evers, winning in a season-best 49.68 seconds. The Cougars'
Ahmed Toure was first in the pole vault (2.76m). Medgar's 4x400 relay was also victorious, with Fowler, Griffith, Johnson and
David Awaye winning with a time of 3:29.14.
In addition to Zboinski, CCNY got two individual victories fron
Michael Abayev in the 800 (2:08.48) and 1500 (4:28.42).
Antonio Oliveira-Nurse won gold in the 110-meter hurdles for the Beavers with his time of 17.13 seconds.
Lehman's
Jormy Polo took home first in a pair of throwing events, winning the shot put (10.58m) and the hammer throw (31.16m).
