NEW YORK - 2025 CUNYAC Women's Basketball Championship MVP
Dior Dorsey finished with 15 points, eight rebounds and four steals as third-seeded Brooklyn claimed its fifth consecutive CUNYAC women's basketball championship with a 59-54 win over host and top-seeded Hunter Thursday night at a sold-out Hunter Sportsplex.
Brooklyn (17-11) earns the CUNYAC's automatic berth to the 2025 NCAA Division III Championship and will learn its next opponent Monday at 2:30 pm as the NCAA selection show airs on NCAA.com.
The Bulldogs led 36-29 midway through the third quarter when Hunter (20-6) used a 9-0 run capped by a
Katie Burke three to take a two-point lead, 38-36, with 2:18 on the clock. Brooklyn countered with a 7-0 run to close out the third and a
Ameea Daniel three in the final minute put the Bulldogs up 43-38 headed to the fourth.
Hunter got the lead to two, 50-48, on an
Alexa Charles basket midway through the fourth. After Brooklyn went up six, 57-51, on two
Alina Estrella free throws with 1:05 on the clock,
Makkedah Murray was fouled shooting a three with 33 seconds left and sank all three free throws to halve the lead. BC sank two free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
Dorsey was one of three Bulldogs in double figures. Estrella racked up 13 points and dished out eight assists, while
Anna Kitch added 11 points and eight rebounds. Daniel and
Aleah Rafat added nine and eight points, respectively.
For Hunter, Charles, the CUNYAC Co-Player of the Year, finished with 18 points and grabbed 20 rebounds. Burke knocked down four threes, going 4-8 from deep, and finished with 12 points.
Gianna Henriques contributed 10 points six boards.
Brooklyn outrebounded Hunter 49-43 and shot 28.8% for the game, while the Hawks shot 36.7%. The Bulldogs forced 24 Hunter turnovers while committing 12 giveaways, leading to a 16-10 lead in points off turnovers.
