Women's Basketball Semifinals On Tap Tuesday

FLUSHING, N.Y.
- The 2025 CUNYAC Women's Basketball Championship semifinals are set for Tuesday evening, with top-seeded Hunter and No. 2 seed Baruch set to serve as hosts.  The Hawks (19-5, 13-1 CUNYAC) welcome fourth-seeded John Jay (12-14, 9-5) for a 6 pm semifinal at the Hunter Sportsplex, while Baruch (14-10, 11-3) entertains No. 3 seed Brooklyn (15-11, 10-4) to the ARC Arena at 5:30 pm.

Tuesday's semifinal winners will meet on Thursday at 6 pm at the Hunter Sportsplex in the CUNYAC women's basketball championship game with an automatic berth to the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship on the line.

Hunter swept a pair of meetings this season with the Bloodhounds, winning 69-50 in mid-January and posting a 71-50 victory at home on January 31.

The top-seeded Hawks have won four straight and 13 of 14 entering Tuesday's semifinal.  Alexa Charles, the No. 2 scorer in the CUNYAC and the nation, paces the Hunter offense with her 26.9 ppg average.  She is also the conference's top rebounder at 10.8 boards per contest and is No. 3 in steals with 115.  Erin Cosio is scoring at a 9.3 ppg clip for the Hawks, while Katie Burke and Gianna Henriques are adding 7.7 and 7.5 points per game, respectively.  

Hunter is seeking its first trip to the conference title game since 2020.

John Jay, which is looking to reach the final for the fourth straight year, pulled away from Lehman for a 67-51 first round win on Saturday.  Michaela Lattimore (20 points, 16 rebounds) and Ashley Zeolla (18 points, 10 rebounds) each registered double-doubles for the Bloodhounds, who have won five straight entering Tuesday's showdown.

Baruch and Brooklyn split a pair of meetings during the regular season.  The Bulldogs recorded an 85-54 win in Brooklyn on January 5, before the Bearcats turned the tables with a 66-63 win on January 28 at the ARC Arena.

Mia Castillo leads the CUNYAC and Division III in scoring with her 27.8 ppg average.  The leading scorer in CUNYAC women's basketball history, Castillo has a league-high 121 steals while her six assists per game are also tops in the conference.  Elissa Leung is the other Bearcat averaging double figures, as she is scoring at a 12.6 ppg clip.

Baruch is looking to reach the title game for the first time since 2015, the last in its run of eight straight conference crowns from 2008-15.

Brooklyn, which has won the last four CUNYAC women's basketball titles and is seeking its 10th straight finals trip, eased past Medgar Evers with a 66-34 win on Saturday.  In that win, Anna Kitch led four Bulldogs (15-11) in double figures with 15 points and 12 rebounds.  Dior Dorsey went 5-10 from the floor and totaled 11 points, eight rebounds, six assists and six steals.  Ameea Daniel and Alina Estrella each finished with 10 points, with Daniel grabbing 11 rebounds to post a double-double.  Audrey Waldvogel chipped in with eight points off the bench.
