Baruch is Men's Tennis Coaches' Choice to Finish First

FLUSHING, N.Y. - Baruch has been selected first in the 2025 CUNY Athletic Conference men's tennis preseason coaches' poll announced Tuesday afternoon.  Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams.

The Bearcats, who have captured six straight CUNYAC titles dating back to the 2017 season, earned four of six first place votes and totaled 24 points.  Hunter picked up one first place vote and totaled 20 points, while Brooklyn, last season's runner-up, earned the other first place vote and racked up 18 points.

John Jay (14), Lehman (9) and York (5) rounded out the poll.

The 2025 CUNYAC men's tennis preseason Players to Watch were also announced.

The 2025 CUNYAC/HSS Men's Tennis Championship is set for Sunday, April 27 and Thursday, May 1.  The semifinals and finals will take place at the USTA National Tennis Center.

CUNYAC Men's Tennis Players to Watch

Tuna Nergizoglu, Baruch - Nergizoglu was named the CUNYAC Player of the Year and a First Team All-Star in his first year with the Bearcats in 2024.  He posted a 12-4 singles record, including 5-0 during the conference regular season.

Ryan Sham, Brooklyn - Sham was a First Team CUNYAC All-Star in 2024.  The senior finished with a 9-5 singles record and a 13-4 doubles mark for the Bulldogs in 2023-24.

Alexander Hagiu, Hunter - Hagiu earned CUNYAC Second Team All-Star accolades last season as a freshman for the Hawks.  He helped the Hawks to a 3-2 conference record last season.

Samir Ghimire, John Jay - A junior for the Bloodhounds, Ghimire earned a team-high seven doubles wins and three singles victories last season.

Richie Magaribi, Lehman - A senior in 2025, Magaribi appeared in 10 matches for the Lightning last year, picking up singles wins against John Jay and York.

Altenor Molien, York - Molien was the Cardinals' men's tennis Newcomer of the Year in 2023-24.
