Defending Champion Medgar Evers Narrowly Ahead of Hunter in Women's Indoor Track Preseason Poll

NEW YORK - Medgar Evers College edged Hunter College in the CUNY Athletic Conference women's indoor track and field preseason coaches' poll released Thursday morning.

The Cougars, who have won the last two CUNYAC women's indoor track and field titles, collected three first place votes and 15 points to edge the Hawks, who garnered two first place votes and 14 points.

Lehman (9), CCNY (7) and York (5) rounded out the poll.

The 2025-26 CUNYAC women's indoor track and field Athletes to Watch were also announced Thursday morning.

Medgar Evers captured its second straight women's indoor track and field title in 2025, defeating Hunter 202-175.  Conference indoor track and field action kicks off this weekend.

The 2026 CUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships are set for Sunday, March 1 at 6 pm at The Nike Track and Field Center at The Armory.

Athletes to Watch


Serena Warner, CCNY - Warner missed last season due to injury. In 2022, she placed fourth for the Beavers in the 200 and the weight throw and third in the shot put.

Shannon Ferri, Hunter - Ferri was the CUNYAC indoor champion in both the mile (5:50.42) and the 800 (2:39.30) last season.

Malalia Siafa-Bangura, Lehman - During the 2025 outdoor season, Siafa-Bangura placed third at the CUNYAC Championship in the 200 and was part of the Lightning's 4x100 and 4x400 relay squads.

Thenica Thompson, Medgar Evers - Thompson placed second at the 2025 indoor championship in the 200 and 400, third in the 60 meter dash and was part of the Cougars' winning 4x400 relay squad.

Keanna Clouden, York - The winner of the women's indoor track Sportsmanship Award for the conference last season, Clouden competed in the 60-meter dash and 200 at the conference championship.
