THREE-PEAT! Kingsborough Defeats Bronx, 8-4, to Win 2024 CUNYAC Community College Baseball Championship

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (May 6, 2024) - The Kingsborough Community College Wave are CUNYAC Community College Baseball Champions once again, defeating Bronx Community College, 8-4, Monday afternoon at Kingsborough Community College.
 
 
In the third straight meeting between the two programs in the championship final, the Wave pulled away late to secure their third straight league championship and eighth in program history.
 
For a second straight season, Thomas Laino was named the championship’s Most Valuable Player. The left-handed batter went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and one run scored.

The Broncos scored a run in the opening inning when Steven Santos singled up the middle to score Fred Jimenez from second.
 
Kingsborough answered back with three runs in the bottom of the frame, powered by a three-run homer to right center from Laino. Bronx tied the game in the second inning, thanks to a two-run double from Euniel De La Rosa.
 
The Wave regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth, thanks to a solo home run to left field from Filippo Venditti.
 
The Broncos tied the game again in the seventh, highlighted by a two-out single from Raul Chevalier. In the bottom of the inning, Kingsborough pulled away for good with three more runs. Nasir Useuni recorded a pinch-hit single to right field to score two runs followed by a sacrifice fly from Victor Perez.
 
Kingsborough added insurance in the eighth inning via a SAC bunt from Yoskar Guzman to score Christopher Jace.
 
The Wave finished the game with nine hits, including a pair each of Venditti and Jace.
 
Jayden Caro was credited with the win on the mound. In his one inning of work, he held Bronx to one run on two hits.
