The Québec Capitales used three pitchers to throw a combined no-hitter, blanking the Lake Erie Crushers 4-0 on Saturday night, May 18th. One of those pitchers was former Queensborough All-American Ryan Sandberg.
The Capitales (4-4) got back to .500 thanks to an outstanding effort from their pitching staff on the road against the Crushers (6-2). Québec LHP Ryo Kohigashi induced weak contact up and down the Lake Erie lineup in his five innings of work, handing over the game to RHP Ryan Sandberg in the sixth. Sandberg continued the no-hit effort for the Capitales, throwing three perfect innings on just 27 pitches while striking out three. RHP Andrew Mazaros swept things up by striking out one in a 1-2-3 ninth inning to complete the combined no-hitter.
So far this season in four appearances for Quebec, Sandberg is 1-0 in 10.1 innings pitched with 14 strikeouts and 2 hits allowed with a perfect 0.00 earned run average and minuscule 0.19 WHIP.
