The Bronx Community College Department of Athletics honored its student-athletes on Monday, May 13, at the institution's annual Athletics Banquet. The event was held on campus, at the Roscoe Brown Student Center, and featured over 50 student-athletes and coaches, as well as members of the institution's administration.
The Awards Banquet served as the final gathering of the academic year for all of Bronx Community College Broncos student-athletes, showcasing their achievements and milestones. The highest honors were bestowed on some of the Broncos' brightest stars.
The Master of Ceremonies, Sports Information Director Stephen Spagnoli, welcomed all in attendance to the event, before calling Dionne Dodson, Director of Athletics, up to the podium. Dodson, who just completed her first year in her position at BCC, praised the student-athletes and coaches for all of their hard work, sacrifices, and diligence throughout the 2023-2024 athletic year. She also mentioned some of the sensational highlights achieved by the teams throughout the year.
Following Dodson's words, she invited the Interim President of Bronx Community College, Mr. Milton Santiago, Ed.D., to say a few words about the student-athletes. Santiago spoke about how proud he was of the student-athletes for achieving success not only on the court and the field, but also in the classroom. He spoke glowingly about the student-athletes' ability to balance academics, athletics, work, and family obligations, expressing his pride in their ability to juggle multiple aspects of their lives.
Later in the evening, after all of the individual team awards were distributed, Spagnoli recognized the institution's accounting and purchasing offices, who tirelessly worked in collaboration with the Department of Athletics to ensure that the student-athletes had the best possible experience while they competed this past season.
