2026 Michael Steuerman Scholar-Athlete Awards Dinner Program
NEW YORK -
Chetara Murphy, Director of Athletics at Medgar Evers College, and
Dr. Gerard Bryant, Faculty Athletic Representative at John Jay College, were recently honored by the CUNY Athletic Conference at the annual Michael Steuerman Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet on Thursday, May 14 at Terrace on the Park.
Murphy was named the recipient of the CUNYAC Appreciation Award, which is presented to individuals for their dedicated service to the CUNY Athletic Conference and its member institutions.
Murphy has served as Athletic Director at Medgar Evers since January, 2019 and in an interim capacity for a year before that. For the past two years, she has served as the President of the conference’s Executive Committee, helping to guide the conference through the current transition period, and also serves as a member of the Awards Committee.
Bryant was selected as the recipient of the Eileen Lyons Service Award. The Eileen Lyons Service Appreciation Award is presented in honor of the late longtime CUNYAC Administrative Assistant Eileen Lyons. Lyons worked at the conference office upon the league's official inception in 1987 and was instrumental in the establishment of the CUNYAC office and the annual Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards Dinner.
Dr. Bryant has served as the Faculty Athletic Representative at John Jay since 2014. Currently the Director of Counseling Services at the College, he is a mainstay at John Jay and CUNYAC championship events, and works tirelessly behind the scenes to benefit the student-athlete experience. Dr. Bryant is a past member of the NCAA Division III Management Council and is currently a member of the conference’s Standards and Ethics Committee.
