FLUSHING, N.Y. (May 14, 2024) – The City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) has announced its all-star awards and team for the 2024 men’s outdoor track & field season.
Medgar Evers swept every major award, as Jaheim Johnson was voted Track Athlete of the Year,
Chrisnel Nicolas was named Field Athlete of the Year,
Rupert Luard-Charles was selected Rookie of the Year, and head coach
Hugh Reid was awarded Coach of the Year accolades.
Track Athlete of the Year: Jaheim Johnson, Medgar Evers
Jaheim Johnson picked up where he left off following a strong indoor campaign that landed him Indoor Track & Field Track Athlete of the Year recognition. He produced the league’s fastest times in the 100m, 200m and 400m races. He was named the championship meet’s Most Valuable Performer, winning gold medals in five events, including the javelin (42.79m), 400m dash (51.04), 200m dash (23.05) and as a member of Medgar’s 4x100m (44.60) and 4x400m (3:37.11) relay teams. In addition, he won a bronze medal in the 100m dash (11.77).
Field Athlete of the Year: Chrisnel Nicolas, Medgar Evers
Chrisnel Nicolas had a strong outdoor season, producing the league’s top mark in the pole vault and decathlon along with top-five marks in the shot put, discus and javelin throws. At the CUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Champions, Nicolas medaled in five events, including a gold in the pole vault and a silver medal in the discus.
Rookie of the Year: Rupert Luard-Charles, Medgar Evers
Rupert Luard-Charles picked up where he left off following a strong indoor campaign that landed him Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Year accolades. He led Medgar Evers to a pair of gold medals in relay events at the outdoor championships, while earning a pair of silver medals in the 100m and 200m dashes. A versatile athlete, he also picked up a bronze in the long jump.
Coach of the Year: Hugh Reid, Medgar Evers
After leading Medgar Evers to its first-ever indoor track & field championship, Hugh Reid guided the Cougars back atop the mountain during the outdoor track & field campaign.
