FLUSHING, N.Y. (May 1, 2024) – On the eve of the 2024 CUNYAC/HSS Men’s Tennis Championship, the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) is excited to announce the league’s regular season all-star awards and teams for the 2024 campaign, as voted upon by the league’s head coaches.
Baruch claimed two of the three major awards, as
Tuna Nergizoglu was voted Player of the Year and head coach
Gregory Wyzykowski was selected Coach of the Year. In addition, John Jay’s
Nikita Sadounichy was voted the conference’s Rookie of the Year.
Player of the Year: Tuna Nergizoglu, Baruch
Nergizoglu has been terrific in his first season in a Bearcats uniform. The sophomore boasts a 12-3 overall record at singles, with all 12 victories coming from the top position, including a perfect 5-0 mark against conference opponents. A three-time CUNYAC Player of the Week honoree, Nergizoglu owns a 13-3 record at doubles, highlighted by a 5-0 record against league opposition.
Rookie of the Year: Nikita Sadounichy, John Jay
Sadounichy went unbeaten in his first season as a Bloodhound, finishing the season with a perfect 11-0 record at topflight singles, including four victories against conference opponents. The rookie also posted seven doubles victories.
Coach of the Year: Gregory Wyzykowski, Baruch
Wyzykowski led Baruch to an unbeaten conference record for a sixth consecutive season, claiming a fifth straight regular season championship since taking over as head coach in 2018.
