Medgar Evers Wins First CUNYAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Title Since 2004

NEW YORK, N.Y. (Feb. 18, 2024) – For the first time since 2004, the Medgar Evers Cougars are women’s indoor track & field champions, winning the 2024 CUNYAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship at the Nike Track & Field Center.
 
The Cougars turned in a dominant performance under the guidance of head coach Hugh Reid to earn conference bragging rights for the first time in two decades and just the second time in program history. Medgar Evers finished with 166 points, followed by Hunter (137), Lehman (71), York and CCNY.
 
Medgar’s Aaliyah Bartholomew was named the meet’s Most Valuable Performer. The rookie won three gold medals, turning in winning performances in the 400-meter dash (1:05.72), the 60-meter hurdles (11.69) and the long jump (4.58m). She was also the runner-up in the high jump (1.45m) and scored in the shot put (8.63m).

Medgar’s Imani Richardson was crowned conference champion in the 60m dash, producing a time of 8.34. Teammate Desireth Ramirez turned in a gold medal effort in the 200m dash, winning the event in 27.62.
 
Nana Samake was the top performer in the 800m run, winning the race in 2:38.95.
 
BMCC’s Lea Reimer was the overall champion in two events, including the mile (5:55.59) and the 3,000m run (12:26.51). Arlene Suzana (Lehman) was the top senior college performer in the mile while Hunter’s Touka Medjoubi was the top senior college runner in the 3,000m run.
 
In relay events, Lehman was the top team in the 4x400m relay, completing the race in 4:40.87, 12 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Hunter was victorious in the distance medley relay with a time of 16:03.76.
 
Hunter’s Daria Niebrzydowski was the top performer in the high jump, recording a leap of 1.50m, while Lehman’s Aminata Sissoko earned gold in the triple jump with a mark of 10.18m.
 
CCNY’s Stephanie Toussaint produced a gold medal effort in the shot put with a heave of 9.66m, while Lehman’s Nidia Nelson won gold in the weight throw with a toss of 12.62m.
