Newport News, Va. - For the four-time CUNYAC women's soccer champions, the John Jay Bloodhounds, the 2024 season came to a close on Saturday, falling to the No. 2 ranked Christopher Newport, 12-0, in the NCAA First Round on Saturday afternoon.
John Jay finishes the season at 10-6-1 while going a perfect 5-0 in conference matches under head coach
Ajani Clunie. Christopher Newport (16-1-2) will take on Vassar, who defeated St. Mary's (MD), 1-0, in the other first-round game.
The Captains scored three straight goals in less than 90 seconds and tacked on eight more in the second half of play.
Gianna Duarte made seven saves, while
Cailyn MacLellan recorded a save in the second half.
Lucia Giangaspero and
Olivia Boucher were each credited with a shot attempt in the match, with Giangaspero going on target for Jaya Daniel's lone save.
The Bloodhounds returned to the NCAA for the first time since 2022, when they faced the Captains, who were then ranked third in the nation.
