NEW YORK - The City College of New York Interim Director of Athletics Karina Jorge has named Yanique Newman—former standout student-athlete and CCNY Athletics Hall of Famer—as the next Head Coach of the Women's Soccer program.

"We're incredibly excited to welcome Yanique Newman as the new head coach of the CCNY Women's Soccer program," said Interim Director of Athletics Karina Jorge. "As a proud alumna and former student-athlete, Coach Newman brings a deep understanding of what it means to represent CCNY. She wore the jersey with heart and determination as a player, and now returns with that same passion to lead the next generation. Her commitment to building a strong, supportive, and competitive team culture makes her the perfect fit to guide this program forward. We're thrilled to have her back home."

The appointment marks a homecoming for Newman, a CCNY Athletics Hall of Famer and one of the most accomplished student-athletes in program history. As a student-athlete, she led the nation in scoring during her senior season, earning recognition as the 2014 CUNYAC Player of the Year, a CUNYAC and ECAC All-Star, and ranking 2nd in the NCAA in goals per game. Newman still holds three program records for goals in a game (6), season (28), and career (56). In 2019, Newman was inducted into the CCNY Athletics Alumni Group Athletics Hall of Fame.

"I'm incredibly honored and excited to lead the CCNY Women's Soccer program", said Newman. "As an alum, CCNY Athletics played a major role in shaping who I am—it gave me a supportive community that challenged, encouraged, and inspired me to become the best version of myself. I'm looking forward to providing that same experience to the talented student-athletes in our program while building a competitive culture rooted in hard work, growth, and team pride."

Following her graduation with a bachelor's degree in Psychology in 2015, Newman began her coaching career immediately. She returns to Harlem with more than a decade of experience coaching across youth, high school, and collegiate levels. Her coaching résumé includes roles as Assistant Coach at CCNY and Monroe College and, most recently, as Head Coach of the girls' varsity team at The Spence School in New York City.

Newman has earned a strong reputation for cultivating team culture, developing leadership, and prioritizing long-term player growth. She also brings an entrepreneurial and community-focused spirit to her work as the Founder and Director of Unique Ballers FC, an all-girls soccer club based in Brooklyn that expands access and support for young girls in the sport. A proud native of Kingston, Jamaica, Newman remains deeply connected to her roots by organizing free soccer clinics, donating equipment, and providing scholarships to youth in her hometown.

She holds a Master's degree in Kinesiology and Sports Management, as well as a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) Coaching License.
