CUNYAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Kai Parris, Lehman
Jr., Bronx, N.Y. / Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy
Parris averaged 20.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Lightning. In an overtime victory over CCNY, he produced his second double-double of the season, finishing with 20 points, 11 rebounds, one block and a steal. Two days later at Brooklyn, he finished with 21 points (8-9 FG) with nine rebounds and three assists.
CUNYAC Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week
Aidony Nivar, York
Fr., Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic / Broome Street Academy
Nivar had a strong week for the Cardinals, averaging 19.5 points and 5.0 assists across a pair of conference contests. At John Jay, he produced 17 points, a season-high six assists, four rebounds and three steals. Two days later in a victory over Medgar Evers, he dropped a season-high 22 points with four rebounds and four assists.
CUNYAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week (Honorable Mention)
Luka Jakic, Hunter
Sr., Queens, N.Y. / Francis Lewis
Jakic produced back-to-back double-doubles in a 2-0 week for the Hawks. In Hunter’s win over Medgar Evers, he finished with 13 points (5-6 FG), 14 rebound, one steal, one assist and one block in 17 minutes of play. Two days later against John Jay, he finished with 16 points (6-8 FG), 14 rebounds and a season-high five assists.
The 2024 CUNYAC Men’s Basketball Championship is scheduled for Feb. 17-23. First Round action begins on Saturday, Feb. 17, at higher seeds, followed by the semifinal round on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at higher seeds. The tournament finale will be held on Friday, Feb. 23 at CCNY.
