FLUSHING, N.Y. (May 23, 2022) – For the first time since 2015, Baruch College was presented with the 2021-22 CUNYAC Commissioner's Cup at the 35th Annual Michael Steuerman Scholar-Athlete Awards Dinner at Terrace on The Park.
The Commissioner's Cup annually recognizes the strongest athletic programs in the CUNY Athletic Conference as determined by a scoring system which rewards a school for success during both regular season and championship competition.
Baruch was atop the standings all year long and built upon its lead with a strong spring campaign to win with 145 points. Archrival and two-time defending Commissioner's Cup champion Hunter College was the runner-up with 116 points, followed by Lehman with 78 points.
Baruch earned the full allotment of points in men's tennis and baseball, winning both the regular season and postseason championships in each sport, respectively. The Bearcats earned another 15 points in men's volleyball, winning their second straight conference title while finishing as the league's runner-up in the regular season.
For the year, Baruch won the most CUNYAC Tournament championships in 2021-22, hoisting the postseason hardware seven times, in addition to winning four regular season titles.
Hunter, who entered the spring season with 66 points, posted a strong spring campaign, accumulating 53 points across four sports. The Hawks grabbed 20 points in softball, posting an unbeaten record in the regular season (20-0) and going on to win their first postseason final in the sport since 2008.
Hunter scored 15 points in men's volleyball, winning the regular season championship while finishing as the runner-up in the postseason with an appearance in the tournament title. The Hawks added another 10 points to their tally after winning their second straight Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
Lehman finished third in the standings with 78 points, scoring 15 points during the spring season. The Lightning won their second consecutive Men's Outdoor Track & Field title while finishing as the runner-up on the women's side.
John Jay placed fourth in 2021-22, finishing with 52 points. In the spring, the Bloodhounds were the postseason runner-up in softball, while also finishing second in the regular season. John Jay scored three additional points in baseball, finishing the regular season third in the standings.
Brooklyn finished one point behind John Jay in the standings with 51 points for a fifth-place effort. The Bulldogs earned five points during the men's tennis season, finishing the regular season as the No. 2 seed.
CCNY placed sixth in the standings for 2021-22, collecting 18 points across four spring-sport seasons. The Beavers earned 10 points in baseball, reaching the championship final while finishing No. 2 in the regular season. In track and field, CCNY captured a total of 8 points, as the men placed second and the women finished third at the championship meet. In addition, the Beavers added three points for their third-place regular season finish in men's volleyball.
