FLUSHING, N.Y. (May 2, 2022) – On Wednesday, May 4, top-seeded Kingsborough Community College will square off with second-seeded Bronx Community College for the 2022 CUNYAC Community College Baseball Championship at 2 p.m. at the iconic Maimonides Park. Spectators are welcomed to attend, while the game will also broadcast globally on Facebook Live.
The Wave return to the championship game for a second straight season after winning their first CUNYAC regular season championship since 2016. Kingsborough went unbeaten against CUNYAC opposition during the regular season, boasting an unblemished 8-0 record.
Kingsborough is hitting .345 as a unit this season, featuring four batters with over a .400 average, including a team-best .458 from Jose Vasquez. Bryan Lopez has a team-high 37 hits on the year, while Benjamin Luciano has produced 29 RBIs. On the mound, Kingsborough is led by three-time CUNYAC Pitcher of the Week, Francesco Bonvini.
Kingsborough is seeking its sixth conference championship in program history and the first since 2017.
Bronx, the defending conference champions, went 4-4 against CUNYAC opponents during the regular season to return to the championship game. Steven Correa leads the Broncos in batting average (.453), hits (24), runs (22), while Alex Messon has produced a team-best 17 RBIs.
The Broncos return to the championship final in hopes of capturing their 12th CUNYAC championship in team history.
Wednesday marks the sixth meeting between the two schools in the conference championship. The Broncos are 4-1 in the previous five meetings, including a 9-7 decision in 2019.
