FLUSHING, N.Y. (May 3, 2022) – On the eve of the 2022 CUNYAC Community College Baseball Championship, the City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its All-Star Team for the 2022 season.
 
Kingsborough swept all four major awards, as Benjamin Luciano was selected Player of the Year and teammate Justin Ramsey was tabbed Rookie of the Year. Wave pitcher Francesco Maria Bonvini was named Pitcher of the Year while head coach Brian Dowd was named Coach of the Year. In addition, Bronx’s Angel Calderon earned the league’s Sportsmanship Award.
 
Player of the Year: Benjamin Luciano, Fr, OF, Kingsborough
Luciano had an impressive debut for the Wave in 2022. The homegrown product is batting .412 this season with 28 hits, 29 RBIs and 27 runs scored. The outfielder has also drawn 15 walks and produced 15 extra base hits, including four home runs. Luciano has eight multi-hit outings to his name this season and is a CUNYAC Player of the Week honoree.
 
Rookie of the Year: Justin Ramsey, Fr, INF, Kingsborough
Ramsey has been a strong addition to the Wave program this season. A two-time CUNYAC Player of the Week, the infielder is batting a whooping .446, ranked No. 24 in the county. Ramsey has produced 29 hits, 23 RBIs, 23 runs scored along with 12 stolen bases. He has eight multi-hit performances, including three outings of three or more hits.
 
Pitcher of the Year: Francesco Maria Bonvini, Fr, P, Kingsborough
Bonvini has been the top ace in the CUNYAC all season long. A four-time CUNYAC Pitcher of the Week honoree, the right-hander ranks No. 17 in the nation in strikeouts with 70. He has three performances of 10 or more strikeouts, including a season-high 16 in a Region XV victory over Monroe-Bronx.
 
Coach of the Year: Brian Dowd, Kingsborough
In his fourth season as head coach, Dowd led the Wave to an unblemished 8-0 record against CUNYAC opponents, securing the program’s first regular season championship since 2016.

“Baseball, like life, is about consistently, habitually, and purposefully finding yourself in positions that will allow you the opportunity to be successful,” said Dowd.
