Hostos Advances to NJCAA DIII Championship Final Four for Third Time in Four Years

ROCHESTER, MINN. (Mar. 10, 2022) – For the third time in four years, the Hostos Community College women’s basketball team is returning to the NJCAA DIII Championship Final Four, knocking off No. 3 Onondaga by a 77-62 score on Thursday night at Rochester Regional Sports Center. The Caimans draw No. 7 seed Minnesota West on Friday at 8:00 p.m. (EST).
 
Hostos, who reached the Elite 8 after a 74-59 victory over Rock Valley, turned in another solid performance against an Onondaga team that came into the contest winners of 22 consecutive games.
 
Savannah Williams had a strong outing, leading all scorers with 22 points. The 2022 CUNYAC Rookie of the Year also grabbed seven rebounds while recording three steals.
 
Shaina Lewis had a solid performance, finishing with 17 points, nine rebounds and a pair of assists. Aiyana Hicks added 13 points, four boards and two steals, while Starr Garcia chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds. Ayanna Brown recorded five points and eight rebounds off the bench.
 
Hostos shot 47-percent from the field in the victory, while forcing the Lazers into 26 turnovers. The Caimans capitalized on the squad’s miscues, converting the mistakes into 28 points.
