FLUSHING, N.Y. – The City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) and our newest sponsor Healthfirst have announced its end-of year awards for the 2021-22 men’s swimming and diving season.
Baruch swept all three major awards, as
Dayan Ordabayev was voted Performer of the Year,
Youssef Elkhouly was named Rookie of the Year, and
Charles Lampasso was voted Coach of the Year.
Performer of the Year: Dayan Ordabayev, So., Baruch
Tabbed the 2021-22 Preseason Swimmer of the Year, Ordabayev lived up to the citation this season for the Bearcats. A three-time CUNYAC Swimmer of the Week honoree, Ordabayev was sensational at the league championships, earning seven gold medals across the three sessions to earn Most Valuable Performer recognition.
“I am delighted to be named CUNYAC Swimmer of the Year as I put so much effort in my swimming career in and out of the pool," said Ordabayev. "My team and I are doing the best to push each other to the limits. Right after Baruch practices, I rush to the gym to do my strength training, Plyometrics, biometrics and olympic lifting workouts three times a week to make sure I have no weaknesses. Since it is my senior year at Baruch College, I am making sure that every time I jump in the pool, I bring my A game with me. It is a privilege to have an award like that.”
Rookie of the Year: Youssef Elkhouly, Baruch, Fr., Baruch
Elkhouly, a three-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week selection, was an important cog in the Bearcats’ success in the pool this season. At the conference championships, the rookie earned seven gold medals across the weekend meet.
"It’s an honor to win rookie of the year,” said Elkhouly. “We’ve worked really hard every day as a team, and we’ll continue to work hard in the future. I’ll continue to do my best and hopefully we will win the CUNYAC championships next year as well."
Coach of the Year: Charles Lampasso, Baruch
Lampasso earns Coach of the Year laurels for a fourth consecutive year and the seventh time in his career as the men’s coach. Currently in his 18
th season as Director of Aquatics and Head Men’s & Women’s Swimming Coach, Lampasso led Baruch to its fourth straight conference championship.
“I am so very glad to be back coaching after being out for over a year,” said Lampasso. “It means so much to the student-athletes to be able to train and compete trying to get their lives back to normal, so to be voted Coach of the Year under these circumstances is a positive thing.”
