FLUSHING, N.Y. – Now that the regular season has come to an end, the field is set for the 2022 CUNYAC/HSS Women’s Basketball Championship. Seven teams with championship aspirations will vie for the title on Friday, Feb. 25 at City College of New York.

Brooklyn, the defending conference champions, earned the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament for a second consecutive campaign and receive a first-round bye. The Bulldogs went 19-3 overall while running the table in conference play (12-0) for a second straight season of competition.
The Bulldogs are led by
Chanel Jemmott, who is averaging 18.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per contest. In addition,
Gianna Gotti and
Ericka James are averaging 13 points per game apiece.
John Jay is the No. 2 seed in the tournament after concluding its regular season with a home win over Baruch. The Bloodhounds are 14-8 overall with a 9-3 record against league opposition and enter the dance winners of their last four games.
Katie Healy is averaging 16.5 points and 12.8 rebounds per outing, while
Bobbi Green is netting 16.7 points per contest.
Baruch is the No. 3 seed in the championship, going 9-10 overall and 7-5 in conference play.
Mia Castillo is the team leader in points (321, 17.8 ppg), rebounds (147, 8.2 rpg), assists (73, 4.1 apg) and blocks (24, 1.3 bpg), while
Melinda Spahiu is averaging 14.6 points per contest and is the team leader in steals (56).
York is the No. 4 seed in the tournament following a coin flip between the Cardinals and Hunter. York is 7-9 overall and posted a 6-6 league record during the regular season.
Mac-Dege Dessources is the squad’s top performer, averaging 20.3 points and 14.4 rebounds per game.
Hunter, the tournament runner-up in 2020, enters the championship as the No. 5 seed after going 9-13 overall during the regular season and 6-6 in conference play.
Kimberly Lau is the team’s leading scorer at 11.6 points per game, while
Kristina Krslovic is averaging 9.6 points per outing.
Lehman joins the field as the No. 6 seed and are led by freshman
Brianna Barnes, who’s averaging 15.9 pints and 12.7 rebounds per game.
Rounding out the bracket is CCNY, led by
Monae Laing, who is averaging 18.2 points per contest.
Quarterfinal action gets underway on Sunday (Feb. 20) when John Jay hosts CCNY at The Doghouse at 12 p.m. The Bloodhounds won both regular season contests against the Beavers.
The second quarterfinal game of the day is between York and Hunter in Jamaica. The two squads split during the regular season, each winning on their respective home court.
The afternoon concludes with Baruch and Lehman squaring off at the ARC. The Bearcats won both their meetings against the Lightning earlier in the year.
Semifinal action is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 22 at higher seeds. The Bulldogs will host the winner of York/Hunter, while the winner of John Jay/CCNY will take on the winner of Baruch/Lehman.
Those winners will advance to Friday’s (Feb. 25) Championship Game at CCNY at Nat Holman Gymnasium. The final will broadcast globally on Facebook Live.
