FLUSHING, N.Y. (Feb. 20, 2020) - On Thursday, the City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its 2019-20 Community College Men's Basketball All-Star selections, voted upon by the league's head coaches.
Bronx’s standout sophomore Tilquan Rucker takes Player of the Year, while Hostos’ Reggie Quezada and Marquee Poole were named Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively.
Player of the Year: Tilquan Rucker, So, G, Bronx
After earning CUNYAC Rookie of the Year honors a season ago, Rucker followed up his sophomore campaign by leading the Broncos to a 6-2 conference record. The 5-7 guard is one of the top offensive threats in the country, leading the nation in total points (771), points per game (32.1), and total steals (127). In February, the three-time player of the week winner accumulated 1,500 points (,1569) in his collegiate career.
Rookie of the Year: Reggie Quezada, Fr, G, Hostos
Quezada had a phenomenal rookie campaign, earning CUNYAC Rookie of the Week accolades for nine of the thirteen weeks. The New York native led the Caimans in points per game (26.6), while his 717 total points rank No. 2 in the nation, only behind Rucker. The freshman also ranks fifth in NJCAA Division III in steals.
Coach of the Year: Marquee Poole, Hostos
Poole earns Coach of the Year laurels for a second straight season. Under the tutelage of Poole, Hostos ranked as high as No. 5 in the nation, and have appeared on the NJCAA Division III Top-25 rankings all season long. The Caimans finished the regular season 21-6 overall, a five-win improvement from last year. Their 7-1 conference record helped them secure the regular season title for a second consecutive season.
