NEW YORK, N.Y. (Feb. 24, 2019)
- On Sunday, the City College of New York dominated its competition, en route to winning its second-straight league title at the 2019 CUNYAC Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Armory in New York City.

The Beavers, who scored 117 points to take the crown, won seven events on the day, six of which came in the field disciplines.

"We have a good foundation and core of athletes that go out and do their thing," said CCNY Head Coach Demetrius Murray. "We have some seniors that really persevered and had some season-bests. We just have to continue to build."

Senior Jaclyn Williams excelled in the throws, capturing gold in the weight throw (12.58 meters) and shot put (9.90 meters). Junior Lucy Piacentini won the triple jump (10.91 meters) and high jump (1.42 meters), in addition to placing second in the long jump at 5.21 meters. Sophomore Avery Maillet came in first in the long jump (5.39 meters), while also winning the 200-meter dash in 25.78 and taking second in the triple jump (10.72 meters).

"They are two of the most competitive young ladies," Murray stated about his two young stars -- Maillet and Piacentini. "Avery was at nationals last year and is looking to go back and Lucy isn't far off. I have never coached two young women with more heart, more pride and resilience than those two."

The tandem of Bianca Rey and Zoe Colasacco led the way for Hunter, which came in second in the meet with 95 points.

Rey earned a pair of second-place finishes in the 800-meter run (2:29.29) and mile run (5:51.85). Colasacco crossed at a second-place time of 11:50.23 in the 3,000-meter run and added a third-place clocking of 5:52.99 in the mile.

In the opening event of the meet, the team of Kayla BoggsKelsey PaulBasma Garif and Marissa Cronin won the distance medley relay in 15:04.28.

Freshman Rebecca McClain narrowly missed winning gold in the shot put for the Hawks, recording a second-place throw of 9.87 meters. Fellow freshman Alexandra Lenz was third in the weight throw with a heave of 8.98 meters.

Lehman (71 points) and Staten Island (69 points) were separated by just two points, in finishing third and fourth at the meet, respectively. York (60 points) and Medgar Evers (11 points) rounded out the team scoring.

Lehman's afternoon was spearheaded by the efforts of Glory Odeh and Victory Ike. Odeh came in second in the high jump (1.37 meters) and ran third in the 60-meter hurdles (10.20) and 800-meter run (2:36.52). Ike raced to a second-place medal in the 400-meter dash (1:00.73) and contributed third-place showings in the long jump (4.91 meters) and triple jump (10.40 meters).

Meanwhile, junior Kharyn Ethridge had as impressive a day as any runner for Staten Island. She won four different events, en route to being named the championship's Most Valuable Performer. She took gold in the 400-meter dash (59.98), 800-meter run (2:27.58), mile run (5:41.66) and the 3,000-meter run (11:37.20) in her debut at the CUNYAC Championships.

"It feels great (to be the MVP)," Ethridge said. "I am just glad I can be here and do what I can do for the team, program and conference. It feels good. A little unrealistic, but I am happy."
