FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 17, 2019) - The City University of New York Athletic Conference and University Student Senate announced the 2019 Community College men's soccer all-star selections today, as selected by a polling of the league's head coaches.

Seydou Diallo of Borough of Manhattan Community College, the newly crowned champions, has earned this year’s Player of the Year award. He became the third consecutive player from BMCC to earn the accolade. Bronx Community College’s Ruddy Segura gets the nod as this year’s Rookie of the Year and QCC head coach Aziwoh Ayafor received Coach of the Year honors for earning the regular season title. 

Player of the Year - Seydou Diallo, Fr, MF, BMCC
Diallo earns the Player of the Year honor in a field including all-stars Gerson Gonzalez (Bronx), and Luis Flores (Queensborough)  on the heels of a season where he posted eight goals and three assists for a total of 19 points. He found the back of the net in all but three competitions for the Panthers. During a non-conference match against Rockland County Community College, Diallo racked up two goals and one assist. 
 
But the freshman didn’t stop there. In the CUNYAC Championship match on Tuesday, he was able to propel his team to victory 5-4 in a game that saw four lead changes. His all-to-important goal to knot the score 4-4 was the momentum shift the Panthers needed. He contributed in a big way, netting a hat-trick and dishing one assist on his way to Championship MVP honors. During a post game interview, he had this to say about the teams preparation for the final match:
 
“We knew it was going to be a tough game because during the first game [of the season] they beat us 2-1. But that was a lesson for us. And we worked hard to finally make it.” 
 

Rookie of the Year - Ruddy Segura, Fr, MF, Bronx
Segura’s freshman campaign saw him contribute six goals and two assists to the Bronx Community College Broncos. Standing at just 5’4”, he was a bright spot for a BCC team that struggled throughout the season. His most impressive performance came in a match scoring two goals and handing out an assist against non-conference Orange County Community College.  


Coach of the Year - Aziwoh Ayafor, Queensborough
During this season orchestrating the team, Ayafor led his team to become regular season champions 6-4 overall record and a perfect 3-0 during conference play. His team finished out the regular season winning three of the last four games..
